On Saturday, April 11th, 2015, the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association hosted their annual Tax Day Rally at Union Point Park in New Bern, NC. Association President Rick Hopkins welcomed the crowd, offered the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, and turned the microphone over to local talent Craig Cooper, who provided a superb rendition of the National Anthem and followed it with his version of “God Bless the USA”. Part 2 –
NC Senator Norman Sanderson (R-Dist 2) opened by reading a prayer offered at the original Constitutional Convention and then went on to explain many of his views about religious liberty in our land. He also offered a national petition for attendees to sign promoting prayer in all aspects of our lives, including government.
Part 3 –
NC House Member Michael Speciale (R-Dist 3) appeared in colonial dress to highlight comparisons between our Founders’ world and the world today. He spoke specifically about certain pieces of legislation he has worked on, and made his case for resisting the effort to hold a national Constitutional Convention to propose Amendments to it.
Part 4 –
Retired US Army Major Dave Goetze, “Major Dave” as he is commonly known, spoke to the crowd to explain the effort behind a new statewide non-profit organization he recently founded called “The NC Chamber of Conservative Leadership” and the vital role it can play in helping local conservative grassroots groups be more successful in their activities.
Part 5 –
Ed Stiles speaks on behalf of Americans for Prosperity and explains their efforts in promoting lower taxes, limited government and free markets.
Part 6 –
Jeff Lewis, National Director of the Patriot Coalition brings the crowd up to date on what they are doing and how they can be more involved in those activities.
Part 7 –
Dr. Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies at the John Locke Foundation in Raleigh explains to those attending about their effort to help rein in the overreach of government into business and private lives and how they can participate in that effort.
Part 8 –
GOP Candidate for the US House in NC’s 3rd District, Philip Law took a few minutes to address the crowd about his focus and desires for needed change in Congress and what he intends to do about it.
Part 9 –
CCTPA President Rick Hopkins closes out the rally with a wrap-up reminding everyone of their organizations activities and plans, and offers the benedictory prayer.
