CCTA Disaster Prepardness Exposition

It’s hurricane season in eastern North Carolina, so it’s time to remind ourselves how to deal with such things, and give our family’s preparedness status a “check-up.” The Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association (CCTA) is holding an Disaster Preparedness Exposition at the Highland Park Christian Church from 2 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

A panel of presenters will deal with range of topics. Stanley Kite, Craven County’s Emergency Services Director, will kick things off by telling us what to expect from the county, and what we need to do for ourselves, plus some suggestions about how to do it.

Other presenters will get into longer term emergencies as well. Don Murdoch will discuss providing food, water, and shelter in typical and atypical circumstances. Matt Schwob will talk about home and personal defense. Randy Siler will share ideas about financial preparedness and even some ideas about bartering. Finally, Rick Hopkins will give some useful information about communications in less than ideal circumstances.

Displays will be provided by the American Red Cross and others.

Come and bring all family members who are old enough to understand. As the Boy Scouts have always known, being prepared can make a huge difference. Highland Park Christian Church is located at 905 Carolina Avenue in Trent Woods.
